Three Nutty Things Photographers Do

Regardless if you are an iPhone photographer, a beginner or a professional, we have all been in a situation where we have seen people do crazy things for a picture. These nutty tactics may be the improper use of the camera, not thinking about how to take a good picture or just funny positions to get the shot we want. We may even be guilty of these habits ourselves. Let’s jump right into the nutty things photographers do!

1. Overuse of Flash

Have you ever been in a dark room with that one person who uses the flash on their camera? The flash blinds everyone and all of a sudden you are seeing stars. Often times when photographers use their flash close up to someone’s face, it can cause them to look pale. The photograph can also expose red eyes and can make your subject’s face look uncomfortable as they try to avoid the bright light. A way to fix the overuse of flash is to turn up your ISO speed on your camera, allowing your camera to take in the natural light.

2. Nutty Positions for the Best Angle

Photographers will do anything to get the best angle for their images. This can result in bending your body in different ways, laying on the floor or even hiding in props. Some of the most dedicated shots from professionals have been risking their equipment and themselves to fire, animals, and heights. The angle is one of the most important aspects to your photograph because this can change the story you are wanting to tell.

3. Avoiding Window Shots

Sometimes when the perfect picture opportunity arises there may be an unfortunate window, fence, or glass in the way of you getting the best quality. For instance, landscape photographs can look it’s best if executed correctly. It might sound crazy to get out of your car to take a picture of the trees or the highway but the end result is worth it. When avoiding window shows you are able to have a steadier hand while also positioning yourself to get the angle you want.
